Dr. Allen has fought for infrastructure improvements for many years.
As Mayor infrastructure will be his number one priority!
This article was over 5 years ago. What a difference it would have made in the traffic congestion.
Ward 8 Councilman David Allen says his $60 million proposal is a “need” for his ward, but other council members say the measure “doesn’t make sense.”
Allen’s proposed ordinance, which was discussed Thursday, would put up $60 million of city funding to widen Trenton Road, which is a state highway. The ordinance was struck down by the city council, with a 7-4 vote against the proposal. Ward 2 Councilwoman Deanna McLaughlin, Ward 1 Councilman Richard Garrett, Ward 5 Councilwoman Wanda Smith and Allen voted in favor of the ordinance.
According to Allen, the level of service provided to Trenton Road is unacceptable, and the road is a major thoroughfare in need of widening to accommodate traffic needs. Allen’s ward borders Trenton Road.
“It’s pretty self-explanatory,” Allen said. “Everybody talks about infrastructure and how we will have better roads, but yet during budget and no roads are fixed.”
Trenton Road, also called TN-48, is a state-owned highway. Allen’s proposal is to add $60 million of city funds to the expansion of TN-48.
Allen said, “Our roads are a quality-of-life issue. It’s not a want; it’s a need.”
